Small groups
The Gathering is a very welcoming small study group which meets in people's homes Sunday evenings at 7:30 pm, twice a month. It provides an opportunity to share our faith journey in a caring group. We always enjoy a time to catch up with each other over coffee and treats.
The topics of study generally alternate from year to year between a study of either a particular book of the Bible or a book by a Christian author. Currently we are discussing Steve Monsma's book Healing for a Broken World: Christian Perspectives on Public Policy. The evening concludes with a time of sharing and prayer.
This small group has been in continuous existence since early in the life of Meadowlands Fellowship. People have come and gone over the years, but a number have been gathering from the start.
New members are always welcome!

Pastorates
What is a Pastorate?
A Pastorate is a gathering of between 20 -30 who once a month for food and fellowship where low key events like monthly luncheons after church and occasional neighborhood service bring pastorate members of all ages together for mutual connection and care.
Pastorate groups are run by members of the congregation who are not necessarily in full-time ministry. Each Pastorate is overseen by a Pastorate elder and a deacon. They often meet in the home of one of the pastorate members.
These pastorate groups are a key expression of church. Becoming a member of a pastorate provides an ideal place in which to grow as a disciple of Jesus and become involved in every aspect of the church’s life. To be a member of a pastorate is, along with the celebration and small group, is the most effective way of enabling any individual member of the church to grow in maturity and be actively involved in the church.
Pastorates serve these purposes:
A way for newcomers to experience community
No matter whether people enter the church post Alpha or simply as newcomers to the congregation, they may feel intimidated by a large group of people. They don't know anyone and are not perhaps familiar with the style or content of the service. Some may not feel at home and may find it hard to make friends. People come to church for many reasons but they stay for only one - relationship'. Making friends is often the key to someone wanting to remain at the church.
A way to foster care of the church members/disciple each other through small groups
Pastorates, and the social setting that they provide, are an ideal way to shape and build Christian community. As friendships deepen within the pastorate, small groups arise organically, giving space for greater intimacy, confidentiality and accountability. We see pastorates and small groups as complementary groups where dynamic, loving and accountable friendships, discipleship, and care for our community take place.
A place to build relationships through service
Pastorates provide an ideal place for people to grow in relationship with God. In addition to providing the base for Christian community, we gather together to worship, hear teaching, and engage in discussion and prayer. We also aim to look beyond ourselves, to get involved in our communities, in social action together, the bigger group making this more possible and enhancing the opportunity for impact.
A place to make a difference
A Pastorate has a twin vision; a deepening and tangible experience of belonging to the body of Christ that God can use for local missional impact. Jesus chose to grow His followers by empowering them to personally live out his vision themselves to make a difference in society. Our vision in Pastorates is to see all people - members and guests alike - actively invested in authentic and vibrant pastorates ... that are making a noticeable gospel impact for Christ in both our members 'lives and each of the neighbourhoods' in the Greater Hamilton Area and such that Christ is increasingly glorified and the lost are drawn to His light.
In short, we say that Pastorates are ... a tangible place of life, from the heart of the church to the heart of the neighbourhoods.
Commitment statements for Pastorates
This is our pastorate at Meadowlands Fellowship, a tangible place of life ... from the heart of the church to the heart of our neighbourhoods. Together we will...
.... Further foster a heart for one another in this easy-going group where guests can become acquaintances and acquaintances can become friends. We want to laugh together, encourage and be encouraged, comfort one another, pray for one another and be called to an even deeper life in Christ. We will make monthly Pastorate Sunday gatherings a priority in our schedules.
.... Further nurture a heart for our neighbourhood that leads to action. Prayer, observation, imagination, planning and ministry cooperation will give us opportunities to show Christ's love and to know to our neighbours better. We will make monthly service opportunities a priority in our schedules.
What does a typical pastorate morning look like?
12:00 - Food
12:00 - 12:15 Welcome and Feedback
12:15 - 1:00 Talk and Discussion
1:00 - 1:30 Ministry or Prayer in small groups

Pastor's Class
This is class given by the Pastor for folks of any age or church experience who want to come and explore how the truth of good news unfolds through out the entire story of the Bible.
We will come to understand how this story of good news ultimately points to Jesus Christ and how it is celebrated, experienced in community, and lays a meaningful calling on our own lives today.
It is available to all who are interested in this type of exploration, as well as those who are interested in exploring full membership in our congregation.
If you have questions or are interested, please e-mail my office or call me at the office. I'd like to get a sense of when folks are available to best schedule the class. If it looks like the best option is a series of evenings, the class will likely start in the first weeks of January 2010 as the classes tend to run for around 8 weeks.
Looking forward to hearing from you!
